Shepherd “Shep” Barlow, a former military man, has left that world behind and now prefers the solitude of his Colorado mountain. Despite his reluctance, he cannot stand by and watch an innocent woman be in harm's way. Hayden, on the other hand, enjoys her work as it keeps her away from the dishonesty and deceit of Washington D.C. However, her peaceful archaeological dig in Nicaragua is shattered when she is kidnapped and finds herself in a life-threatening situation. Her captors intend to use her as leverage, and she knows she must find a way to escape.

Unexpectedly, Hayden finds herself alongside a tough, grumpy savior in the form of Shep - a man who is willing to put his own life on the line to ensure her safety. As they navigate through the jungle, with danger lurking at every turn, Hayden initially finds Shep to be abrasive and irritating. Yet, as they face adversity together, she discovers a man who is fiercely protective and caring.

Both Shep and Hayden are unprepared for the bond that begins to form between them, especially in the midst of their fight for survival.
